Job Description

Building on your education in Environmental Conservation, Natural Resource Management or Forestry, you will assist the EMEND field manager in achieving the EMEND project’s goals for the 2017 field season. Your duties may include:

 Re-marking research plots throughout our 7000 ha research site;

  • Clearing and maintaining trails and building ATV bridges to ensure quad access into research areas;
  • Collecting core research data for the EMEND experiment;
  • Implementing EMEND’s industry leading safety program; 
  • Coordinating and managing the EMEND field station;
  • Coordinate Core Field Program with Field Technicians’ Assistance
  • Coordinate and facilitate orientation, training, and professional development of field staff

Qualifications

We are looking for a self-starting, independent, and motivated individual with the following attributes:

  • Comfortable living and working in a remote field environment
  • A passion for sustainability and a desire to live and work in the remote boreal forest
  • At least 5 seasons of field experience
  • Plant identification skills would be considered an asset
  • Strong navigation skills and ability to use both GPS and/or a compass and map
  • At least two seasons of supervisory experience
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Experience coordinating events or programs and ensuring timely delivery of results
  • Standard First Aid or higher
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and experience driving ATV’s
  • Knowledge and experience in the safe use of chainsaws is considered an asset

Situated in the picturesque boreal forest, EMEND is the largest forest management experiment in the world and is contributing directly to sustainable forest management policy in Alberta. This is your chance to help shape your future – this is your chance to make a difference.
