Job Description

Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, Peace River. We work to enhance the economic, environmental and social contributions of our forests and forested lands to Albertans. We are seeking individuals with an interest in natural resources, wildfire management and ecology to assist us within the Peace River Forest Area during the 2017 summer months in the following roles:

 

- Airtanker Base Staff

- Camp Manager

- Fire Guardian

- Stock keeper

- Manup Supervisor

- Logistics

- Wildfire Data Entry

- Wildfire Dispatcher

- Forest Health Assistant

ABOUT YOUR COMPETENCIES:

 

DEVELOP NETWORKS - You will need to have well developed communication and interpersonal skills in order to establish and maintain effective relationships with various staff and stakeholders that you will come into contact without throughout the season.

AGILITY - With the nature of wildfire things can change often and very quickly. You will need to be adaptable, emotionally resilient and able to change your priorities as required.

DRIVE FOR RESULTS - With the broad range of situations that can take place you must be very effective in resource and time management. The ability to know what outcomes are important and maximizing resources to achieve results that are aligned with the goals of the organization is key.

CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING - These roles require the ability to assess options and implications to achieve outcomes and solutions in various capacities. This includes being able to seek clarity and identify solutions as required.

DEVELOPING SELF AND OTHERS - Some positions will play a supervisory role and be responsible for leading a team that can quickly respond to a wide range of scenarios. Well-developed leadership skills are essential so that you can provide training, advice and support to personnel with a broad range of technical and non-technical backgrounds.

The following certifications and/or training are mandatory:

 

- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License (or equivalent)

- Valid Standard First Aid, plus CPR

- Current Defensive Driving Certificate

- Current Driver's Abstract

 

In-house training for WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Off-Highway Defensive Driving will be made available to successful candidates, as required.

 

These positions may require shift work, and the applicant must be willing to work overtime and be available for fire export to other locations or remote camps. Some positions require the ability to pass a standard fitness test.
